Sport and dance are global passions of young people. They have been proven time and time again to be very effective ways to engage young people and change lives. Between March 2011 and March 2013, Kent Youth's Activeyouth project has been given funding to deliver a total of 6 sports leadership courses. The course is the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership, and each project will see a  minimum of 15 young people trained using the nationally recognised Sports Leaders UK Award. Once trained, the young volunteers will undertake a minimum of 20 hours of volunteering, being placed in local community based groups where they will introduce and develop new active lifestyle programmes with children and other young people.

The programme is open to all young people aged 16 to 19 with the desire to train and make a difference to other young people through sports, games and activities. We particularly want to encourage young people who do not usually tend to volunteer. This includes young people who are not in education, employment or training and young people from black and ethnic minority communities.

We will keep our local project list up to date (see below) so you can see where we are currently recruiting and what we are up to. We will also include stories and news from the programme. So, if you are aged 16-19 and you think you might be interested in this programme, you can email ellen@kentyouth.org or call her on 01622 793700.

If you are a local community children and young people's group which is interested in receiving young trained volunteers from this programme, please also contact Ellen.
